Paxil a treatment for depression

Depressive state of a person often interfere with the person's daily life, and cause a disturbance in their normal functioning, creating problems not just for the person but also for the ones who care for him or her. Depression, as such is quite a serious disorder which can be treated.

You can suffer from the different types of the depression disorder, such as Major Depressive Disorder, Dysthymic Disorder, Psychotic depression, Postpartum depression and Bipolar disorder. What is Paxil?

Paxil belongs to the Selective Serotonin Re-uptake Inhibitors (SSRI), which works by maintaining the balance of serotonin in your brain in order to treat the depression. The serotonin levels in your brain, helps improve the mood problems that you are facing, in turn helping you treat depression. But there are certain things that are to be kept in mind while using this pill, as it can otherwise prove fatal. You should avoid taking medications such as Orap, Mellaril, and Azilect, Eldepryl or Emsam, as they can lead to some serious and fatal consequences, if taken along with this antidepressant medication. It is important that you inform your doctor any health conditions such as liver disease, kidney disease, bleeding or blood clotting disorder, seizures, epilepsy and are having a history of drug abuse or suicidal thoughts, that you might be suffering from.

One of the major symptom of depression is that you tend to have suicidal thoughts and worsened depressed feeling. These symptoms can increase if you are taking antidepressants, and so it is advisable that you inform your doctor about such worsening of the symptoms. You more likely to face such a situation if your age is 24 years or younger than that. This pill should be avoided by women who are pregnant, as it can lead to serious, life threatening lung problems and hear defects in newborn babies. It is advisable that you consult your doctor if you are planning to get pregnant, as stopping the pill can lead to relapses of depression. Women who are breastfeeding should also inform their doctors, as Paxil can pass through the breast milk and affect the feeding baby.

This medication is available in the form of a pill as well as a liquid. If you are taking a pill, you should be careful not to chew or break the pill before taking it as more than necessary contents will be dissolved into the body. If you are taking the liquid form of Paxil, you should shake the liquid properly before taking it. If you miss a dose, you should take the next one as soon as you realise that you have missed it. But if it is already time for the next dose, you should avoid taking an overdose, as it can lead to side effects such as nausea, vomiting, confusion, aggression and coma.
