What is Ultracet

Ultracet is used for the treatment of moderate and severe pain. Ultracet is a combination of tramadol and acetaminophen. While tramadol is a narcotic like pain relief medication, acetaminophen increases its intensity. Ultracet can also be used for other purposes besides pain relief.

Important information about Ultracet

Do not take Ultracet if you are allergic to any of its ingredients, especially to tramadol and acetaminophen. Avoid using it if you have been intoxicated recently and/or have been using narcotic drugs and antidepressants. Do not take this drug more than prescribed. Overdosing can be harmful you can use around 2 tablets per dose and around 8 tablets per day.

Ensure that you inform your doctor if you drink more than 2 alcoholic beverages per day or if you have suffered from alcoholic liver disease. In such cases, you might not be in a position to take this drug.

Some people who have used this drug have experienced seizures. People who have a history of having seizures are at a greater risk of suffering from the same after taking Ultracet.

This drug can be habit-forming and addictive in nature and this is why a person who has a history of drug or alcohol addiction should avoid it. Do not share this medication with anyone. Store it at a place where other people cannot reach. Keep it away from people who have a history of drug abuse.

Before using Ultracet

Do not use this drug if you are intoxicated. You should not take Ultracet if you are allergic to acetaminophen or tramadol, if you are intoxicated (drunk), or if you have recently used any of the following drugs:

• Alcohol
• Street drugs
• Narcotic pain medicine
• Sedatives
• Medications for the treatment of depression or anxiety
• Medications for mental illness

Let your doctor know if you drink more than two alcoholic beverages per day. In such cases, you might not be in a position to take medications that contain acetaminophen. Your risk of developing seizures increases when you take this drug, especially if you have a history of metabolic disorder or seizures.

A doctor may adjust/change your dose if you are suffering or have a history of kidney malfunction, liver disease, stomach disorder, depression, suicidal tendencies or breathing problems.

Can pregnant women take it?

This medication is categorized under the FDA pregnancy category C. Although it is not known if this drug harms an unborn baby or not, it is advisable that you do not take it if you are pregnant, planning to get pregnant or breastfeeding. At times, this medication may harm the baby as it passes in to breast milk. Do not use this drug without telling your doctor.

Take this pain relief medication exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Do not use it for more than 4 days in a row. Taking this medication more than the amount mentioned in the prescription will increase the risk of side effects. Always consult a doctor before taking this pain relief medication.
